2020-08-19

Hyundai Motor Group tied for highest in 2020 IQS and APEAL Study evaluated by J.D. Power. The parent corporation receiving the most model-level awards is HMG, according to the J.D. Power. And here are the details.

According to the J.D.Power, the parent company receiving the most model-level APEAL(Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study) awards is Hyundai Motor Group (five awards from Hyundai Motor Company, Kia Motors, and Genesis). Also, HMG received the most model-level awards in the J.D. Power 2020 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS), as seven models ranked highest in their segments.

J.D. Power, a market research institute in the U.S., is a global leader in consumer insights, advisory services, and data and analytics. These capabilities enable J.D. Power to help its clients drive customer satisfaction, growth, and profitability. The study examines problems experienced by owners of new model-year vehicles during the first 90 days of ownership. J.D. Power then provides people with such useful information.

The J.D. Power overall initial quality studies include the Initial Quality Study and the APEAL Study. The 2020 U.S. Initial Quality Study is based on responses from 87,282 owners – not professional vehicle analysts – of new 2020 model-year vehicles who were surveyed after 90 days of actual ownership. The study, which provides manufacturers with information to facilitate the identification of problems and drive product improvement, was fielded from November 2019 through February 2020. The survey covered a number of categories – design, performance, performance, safety, features, convenience, quality, and so on. And a total of 189 vehicles from 31 brands – 13 premium brands and 18 mass-market brands – have been evaluated this year.

What is changed this year is that now there are even more criteria for improved credibility of the study. Measured on a 1,000-point scale, it included 37 more areas covering comfort, luxury, driver’s seat, and acceleration.

With upgraded evaluation, J.D. Power announced the Kia Stinger ranked highest in Midsize Premium Car.

The Genesis G70 topped the Compact Premium Car and the Kia Stinger for Midsize Premium Car, Hyundai Veloster for Compact Sporty Car, Hyundai Sonata for Midsize Car, and the Kia Telluride for Upper Midsize SUV.

The parent company receiving the most model-level APEAL awards is Hyundai Motor Group – five awards from Hyundai Motor Company, Kia Motors, and Genesis, followed by BMW AG and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., with four each.

The Hyundai Veloster and Tucson won the IQS award in each segment.

The parent corporation receiving the most model-level IQS awards is Hyundai Motor Group with its seven models. The models that rank highest in their respective segments are Genesis G70, Hyundai Veloster, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Forte, Kia Soul, Kia Sorento, and Kia Sedona.

The Genesis G70 topped in both IQS and APEAL Study, proving its sheer quality.

Initial quality is determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles. The new analysis covering 223 criteria takes an updated look at the problems owners are having with their new vehicles, including those related to new technologies, user experiences, and emotional qualities. The iconic study, redesigned this year, measures components that fail and features that don’t work the way owners want, hence lower points mean higher satisfaction. All competitors gained 166 points on average, which ‘plunged’ from 93 points last year.

Kia, on the other hand, topped the class, gaining 136 points. This becomes more meaningful, considering the harsher criteria including new technologies and other major global premium automakers’ performances. Genesis, Kia, Hyundai had ranked the highest, the second, and the third, respectively, in the same J.D. Power study last year.

The Genesis G70 and Hyundai Veloster topped in both IQS and APEAL Study, proving their sheer qualities. Only eight models including the BMW X6 and Jaguar E-Pace won awards from both studies.

The J.D. Power APEAL Study announced the Kia Telluride ranked highest in Upper Midsize SUV.

The reason HMG is gaining popularity in the American market is that the automaker is pouring their heart to keep improving the quality of their products, and this multiple award-winning directly suggest the group’s know-how for doing so. The company is expected to rise even further in the U.S. market, not to mention its brand image and awareness.
